Requisites:
Aims: This unit will introduce the discipline of marketing and society, its main theoretical concepts as well as managerial practice and ethical considerations, with a focus on the issue based applications of ethical theories to marketing.
Learning Outcomes:
At the end of this unit students will be able to:
1. Diagnose ethical marketing problems and suggest how they might be resolved or dealt with.
2. Evaluate the social responsibilities of, and relationships between, companies and their external and internal stakeholders.
3. Assess the benefits and problems associated with managing marketing ethics.
4. Demonstrate the ability to analyse and debate ethical problems, and to develop, present and defend potential solutions.
Skills:
The ability to engage in an advanced critical discourse surrounding contemporary issues in marketing (T, F), this skill will be developed and moderated (T, F, A). Presentation skills will be assessed (A).
Content:
The content of this unit will critically analyse contemporary marketing ethical issues at an advanced level:
* The role and consequences of marketing and society
* Social responsibility: advanced theory and practice
* Identify and critically analyse clashes and coalitions with stakeholder Groups
* Advanced cause related and social marketing
* Pressure groups and customer resistance
* Progressive socially responsible marketing strategies
* The ethics of advertising and communications
* Progressive marketing and society in a global context
* Advanced ethics of marketing to children.
