Aims: To provide an investigation of Architectural Theory and History of Urban design in the post-war period. Themes within contemporary city theory will be identified via a discussion of their proponents. Links will be made to the module in studio design that runs concurrently with this project.
Learning Outcomes:
Students who have completed this unit should be able to demonstrate the utilization of a major theme in architectural theory and history in the critical appraisal of practice; demonstrate an understanding of the contemporary built environment as filtered through assigned texts, and to set out a critical appraisal of the arguments presented; research an architectural topic of theoretical/speculative interest.
Skills:
Independent research; presenting arguments coherently in Powerpoint form.
Content:
Working in pairs students are asked to prepare a Powerpoint presentation of 30 minutes duration on an allocated city theorist. Assessment will be based on clarity of argument, criticality, depth of research and overall coherence.
