Aims:
* To develop concepts of durability and life cycle costs
* To provide specialist knowledge of façade construction and manufacture and of façade materials.
Learning Outcomes:
After successfully completing this unit students will be able:
* To demonstrate specialist knowledge of the use of materials and components in the creation of facades,
* To critically compare the benefits and disadvantages of using particular materials,
* To demonstrate an understanding the influence of cost on façade design.

Content:
Standardised building, forming processes, panels, components, joints, sealants, glass, concrete and masonry, stone and ceramics, structural, finishes, value engineering, durability, whole life cost, refurbishment, access and maintenance, design conflicts, facade control, adaptive facades, aesthetics.
