Requisites:
Aims: This unit aims to equip the individual with the skills and underpinning knowledge required to identify, analyse, critically appraise and present information which supports organisational decision-making and to identify the most appropriate means to communicate it.
Learning Outcomes:
By the end of the unit a student will be able to:
1. Identify and select appropriate sources of data and information;
2. Analyse and present information to support effective decision making;
3. Communicate the results of information analysis and decisions to improve quality.

Intellectual (taught and assessed) - data/information selection, analysis, appraisal and presentation, organisational structures and decision making processes, management styles, information and communication channels, work-based communication theory.

Content:
This unit concentrates on:
* The range of information required to make decisions in an organisation, identifying and evaluating information sources, ways of analysing and presenting information for effective decision making;
* Types of information storage and retrieval systems and the legal requirements associated with storage and retrieval of information;
* Methods of communication within an organisational setting, the role communication plays in ensuring successful outcomes and creating wider organisational understanding of the decisions made;
* Individual management and communication styles and their impact on decisions and organisational efficiency;
* Techniques for managing meetings to improve quality.
