Aims: The aims of this unit are to:
* investigate the main functions of industrial robots;
* investigate basic robot programming techniques;
* investigate the implementation of robot cells.

* generate programs to simulate industrial operations;
* describe the implementation of robot cells.

Content:
This unit concentrates on:
* the design and configuration of industrial robots including drives, sensors and control systems;
* typical applications of robots including geometry, end of arm tooling operations and sources of error;
* programming methods, communication and interfacing of other components and control systems;
* cell design, layout, cycle times, guarding, robot protection, error detection, monitoring and economic analysis.
