CH30066 Mechanistic organometallic chemistry and homogeneous catalysis

Credits: 3
Level: Honours
Semester: 2
Assessment: EX100
Requisites:
Before taking this unit you must take CH20147 or take CH20148 and in taking this unit you cannot take CH40066

Aims & Learning Objectives:
To develop an understanding of modern homogeneous catalytic processes and the organometallic reactions that help to underpin them. After studying this Unit, students should be able to:
* Appreciate catalytic cycles and their mechanisms.
Content:
Organometallic reactions - oxidative addition, migratory insertion; Examples of catalytic reactions. Monsanto process, hydroformylation and hydrogenation reactions. Alkene polymerisation and metathesis. C-H bond functionalisation as future goal.
