Only available to students on the MSc in Advanced Management Practice.
Aims: To prepare students for the Period of Professional Practice; to develop an understanding of relevant theories underlying work-based learning especially in a contemporary organizational context expecting from people greater responsibility for their development; to review progress towards the Personal Development Plan; to set expectations and objectives for Professional Practice; to develop an understanding of the sector relevant to the upcoming Period of Professional Practice paying particular attention to cross-boundary working; to explain the assessment requirements of the Professional Practice.
Learning Outcomes:
Ability to reflect on their progress towards achieving their Personal Development Plan with regards to their Learning Needs Analysis; to understand the requirements to be placed on them during professional practice; the ability to manage their professional practice experience effectively and to identify learning opportunities.

Content:
Review of the Learning Needs Analysis and the Personal Development Plan; relevant theories of work-based learning and reflective practice; self-awareness in interpersonal/team settings (e.g. Myers Briggs Type Indicator); communications skills;theoretical frameworks and conceptual tools for the analysis of the social, environmental and economic context of the employing organisation; how to manage problems which emerge on professional practice and to identify learning opportunities; health and safety issues; the assessment requirements of the Period of Professional Practice including the Reflective Commentary and the Business Case Analysis.
