MN50423 Long assignment for entrepreneurship and innovation

Requisites:
This unit is only available to students on the Postgraduate Diploma in Entrepreneurship and Innovation Management.
Aims: Provides the opportunity for students to complete their PG Diploma by studying one area of entrepreneurship and innovation of their choice and in depth (10,000 words). While the structure and process of the long assignment will be inspired from the taught element of the PG Diploma, the content will largely be driven by internal issues from the students own organization.
Learning Outcomes:
On completion of the unit, the candidates will be able to:
* Apply corporate and strategic considerations of entrepreneurship and innovation to their organisation.
* Appreciate the conceptual and practical challenges of implementing entrepreneurship and innovation within the organisation.
* Understand the metrics and performance measures associated with entrepreneurship & innovation.
* Develop competence profiling criteria that are relevant to a particular industry or market sector
* Develop strategic approaches and operational methods for evaluating the performance of innovation.
Skills:
From the guidance provided by the long assignment supervisor, the candidates will be able to demonstrate one or more of the following skills:
Personal/Interpersonal
* an understanding of entrepreneurship and innovation, and how it can be effectively managed;
* a critical awareness of current issues in the management of industrial operations
* an understanding of theoretical concepts and frameworks that enable the student to link theory and practice meaningfully and the ability to appraise critically both theory and practice;
* an understanding of appropriate research and methodological techniques that allow detailed investigation into topical business issues and ability to use these skills to produce a professional, critical business report.
Professional Practical Skills
* assess and further develop the strategic position of an organisation under complex conditions;
* evaluate the current standing of an organisation and practically contribute to the attainment of an organisation's strategies and objectives;
* be self-directed and able to act autonomously in planning and implementing the thesis/project.
Transferable/Key Skills
* an ability to develop a holistic perspective on an organisation and an understanding of how the different functions relate to one another;
* an appreciation and in-depth understanding of the resources and competences required for successful cross-functional management in organisations including enterprise skills.

* Managing process improvement in entrepreneurship and innovation
* Implementation of entrepreneurship and innovation
* Knowledge and information management tools and procedures for entrepreneurship and innovation
* Identification of competences and capabilities in international entrepreneurship and innovation
* Performance evaluation of entrepreneurship and innovation.
