Aims: The Aim of this unit is to update underpinning pharmacology, physiology and pharmaceutical knowledge in gastro-intestinal disease.
Learning Outcomes: On completion of this unit students will be able to: 1. Analyse the disease monitoring factors in gastro-intestinal disease (knowledge and understanding). 2. Explain the patient monitoring factors in gastro-intestinal disease (knowledge and understanding, professional practical skill. 3. Complete and critically reflect on pharmaceutical care plans for patients with gastrointestinal disease. 4. Assess the primary and secondary care roles for healthcare professionals/pharmacists in gastro-intestinal disease (professional practical skill). 5. Reflect on your own practice in gastro-intestinal disease and identify areas for continuous improvement (personal transferable skill). 6. Produce a review (including an audit design) suitable for submission to a prescribing committee of the use of a group of medicines in your local area of practice. 7. Apply the knowledge gained from this unit in order to provide appropriate evidence based advice to patients with gastrointestinal diseases and the prescribers and other healthcare professionals caring for them.
