About the role

This new role offers a great opportunity for an experienced, motivated and flexible data and insights professional to:

• Undertake key analyses of our research portfolio to inform senior decision making as we launch a new 10-year strategy.
• Play a key role in supporting the development of our REF submissions through the provision of data and benchmarking.
• Scope and implement reporting from our new awards management system, Worktribe, ensuring that we maximise the benefits of implementation.

We are looking for someone with:

• Experience of data preparation, analysis and visualisation, working in a data analytics function or similar role.
• Enthusiasm and creativity to explore unfamiliar data and questions and offer recommendations and solutions.
• Flexibility and organisational skills to manage competing demands and multiple deadlines.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a small team.

Experience in the higher education sector, and working with Worktribe, Unit4 ERP (Agresso), Pure or Scopus would be advantageous, but is not essential.

About the role

Undergraduate and Postgraduate students have the option of taking a one year work placement in industry as part of their degree. You will play a vital role in maintaining strong professional relationships with current placement providers in an industry facing role whilst also proactively sourcing and developing opportunities to generate new placements. You will act as a point of contact for students, academic staff and employers, dealing with enquiries and providing guidance. 

A major part of the role is to provide employability support to students on a one to one basis and good written English skills are essential. In addition, you will be required to deliver skills workshops and talks and must be a confident, lively presenter to communicate to the student audience. Your focus in the post will be on supporting students to apply for placements in the technology and automotive sectors and you will principally be supporting Mechanical and Electronic and Electrical Engineering students. 

About you

With excellent organisational skills, you will demonstrate a good use of initiative and have the ability to multi-task and prioritise a high workload. 

Attention to detail and good administrative record keeping are essential. We work together as a team to achieve overall results and you will need to be a good team player. 

An interest in learning about and working with engineering fields and industries would be beneficial. Placement Officers host companies on campus as well as visit them on site to promote the placement scheme so you will need strong interpersonal skills. You will display skills in mentoring or training young people as Placement Officers provide support to students 1-1, in small groups and in large lectures.

We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic postdoctoral researcher with a background in chemical biology, biochemistry, molecular biology or a related discipline to contribute to an interdisciplinary project developing intracellular peptide screening technologies to investigate transcription factor function in mammalian cells.

About you

• A PhD (completed or nearing completion) in biochemistry, chemical biology, molecular biology, organic chemistry or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant research experience.
• Practical laboratory experience in one or more of molecular biology, mammalian cell culture, peptide chemistry or protein biochemistry.
• Experience in designing, conducting and troubleshooting experiments, with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• An interest in protein–protein interactions, transcriptional regulation and the development of innovative molecular tools.
• Ability to work independently, manage research activities effectively and contribute collaboratively to an interdisciplinary team.
• Good written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present research findings and contribute to scientific publications.

Desirable skills and experience:

• Experience in mammalian cell culture, molecular cloning, transfection and the development of cell-based assays.
• Experience in genetically encoded peptide libraries, intracellular screening or reporter-based selection systems.
• Knowledge of peptide synthesis, peptide cyclisation, organic synthesis or chemical crosslinking.
• Familiarity with biochemical or biophysical techniques such as circular dichroism, fluorescence polarisation or isothermal titration calorimetry.
• Experience with luciferase reporter assays, Western blotting, RT-qPCR or related approaches to studying gene regulation.

We particularly welcome applicants who bring strong expertise in either molecular/cell biology or peptide chemistry and are interested in developing complementary skills. Full training and support will be available through our interdisciplinary research team.

The post is responsible for the coordination, delivery and continuous development of the University's Doctoral Development Programme, ensuring doctoral researchers have access to a high-quality, inclusive and impactful programme of professional, academic and personal development throughout their doctoral journey.

You will

• coordinate the annual programme of workshops and development opportunities, deliver selected training sessions and writing retreats, support the University's doctoral coaching programme and oversee the online doctoral development platform. 
• work collaboratively with internal and external partners to develop innovative approaches to researcher development. 
• also support the development of tailored provision at key stages of the doctoral journey, including for new doctoral researchers and those approaching completion.

About you

We're looking for a learning and development enthusiast with the motivation and creative mindset to enhance work in this area.

You will have:

• knowledge of the training and development needs of postgraduate researchers
• knowledge of current and effective learning and development approaches
• experience of maintaining and / or developing online learning resources

The Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering is seeking to appoint a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer. The successful candidate will deliver high-quality teaching across the discipline and will be appointed to either a Teaching only or a Research and Teaching pathway, depending on their experience, expertise, and career profile. 

The role will include:

• Teaching across the Electronic and Electrical Engineering curriculum, delivering lectures, tutorials, laboratories, and project-based learning activities (such as a week-long group projects). This will include teaching core Electronic and Electrical Engineering subjects (such as electronic fundamentals, communications, digital electronics, etc…) at Years 1 and 2, contributing specialist teaching in Years 3 and 4 aligned with your expertise, and supporting relevant postgraduate taught programmes.
• The development of students' professional and transferable skills, including communication, teamwork, project management, and engineering design, while maintaining the University's high standards in teaching, learning, and inclusivity.
• The leadership and delivery of project weeks, design challenges, and other experiential learning activities that provide students with opportunities to apply engineering knowledge to real-world problems.
• The administration, leadership, and management activities of the Department, including taking on academic citizenship responsibilities, supporting curriculum development, participating in recruitment and outreach activities, and contributing to the strategic development of the Department's teaching and research portfolio.

For a Research and Teaching position, you will develop an internationally recognised, independent research programme in a core area of Electronic and Electrical Engineering that complements and enhances the Department's existing strengths. 

The Lecturer will be appointed at Grade 8 and Senior Lecturer will be appointed at Grade 9.

The role operates on a rotating shift pattern covering 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, including 12-hour shifts, night work and regular foot patrols.

The contracted working week is 38.5 hours, including two hours of contracted overtime. The role attracts a 15% shift allowance and a 10% market supplement.

Meanwhile, approximately 40% of chronic disease deaths globally are directly linked to just four products manufactured by transnational corporations: tobacco, ultra-processed foods, alcohol, and fossil fuels.

The Centre for 21st Century Public Health is a multi-disciplinary research Centre directed by Professors Gilmore and Rutter and spanning the Departments for Health, Social and Policy Sciences, Economics, Psychology, and Management.

The C21PH is a globally leading centre for public health research, working closely with civil society and policymakers to improve human health and the natural systems on which it depends at the local, national, and international level.  

We conduct policy-relevant research to identify cost-effective population-level interventions to address the structural drivers of ill health, inequity, and environmental degradation.   

About the role

As Operations Officer, you will work with academics, researchers, and professional colleagues to:

• Provide operational support for the growth of the Centre for 21st Century Public Health at the University of Bath.
• Develop strong working relationships and networks with appropriate academic and professional staff from across the University and beyond, including engaging with staff at senior levels and external stakeholders.
• Support several Centre- and University-level committees responsible for setting the Centre's strategy and overseeing its operations.
• Responsible for coordinating and managing meetings, workshops, events and public lecture series.

This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the delivery of high-quality physiotherapy services to student-athletes across a range of sports.

You’ll be part of a dynamic and supportive team at Team Bath, contributing to the development of student-athletes in a nationally recognised performance environment. This role offers a valuable opportunity to gain experience in a high-performance setting and make a meaningful impact on athlete development.

About the role

You will deliver Physiotherapy support to the University’s Student Performance Sport programmes and TASS, alongside other focused projects and athlete groups. This will include providing pitch/court side cover for matches and training, triage sessions, prehab sessions, individual clinic treatment time, athlete screening/profiling, as well as recording and monitoring injury surveillance data. Additionally, effectively working with coaching staff and the interdisciplinary team will be a fundamental aspect of this role. 

You will work closely with the Lead Physiotherapist and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to ensure a holistic and aligned approach to athlete support and health.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver physiotherapy services to student-athletes across multiple sports.
• To work within the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy, the Health Care Professions Council and the University’s Codes of Conduct and keep documentation on all aspects of injury management in accordance with the industry standards.
• To liaise with consultants, coaches and national governing body staff who can contribute to the enhanced physiotherapy services for all our athletes.
• Contribute to the continued development of a comprehensive database of the assessment and treatment of athletes.
• Support CPD activities and contribute to cross-departmental education initiatives.
• Collaborate with internal and external partners to support athlete health pathways.

About you

We are seeking someone who:

• has a qualification at degree level (or equivalent) in physiotherapy.
• has membership of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (MCSP) and registration with the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC).

The broad remit of the research is applied research that will improve the understanding and provision of care directly impacting the mental health of young people. 

Topics of particular interest include nurse training and practice relevant to the care of young attendees at emergency departments presenting with self-harm, the mental health care of young parents, acute medical admissions and other underserved populations. 

The postholder will spend up to two days in direct clinical activity with the specific role negotiated with the services. 

This post offers an excellent opportunity to a nurse aspiring to further research training with the aim of developing a clinical academic career. 

Joining the Bath MHRG offers training and infrastructure to support such development including NIHR academy membership. 

There is support to complete a PhD during the period of the post.

There will also be opportunities to collaborate with staff from neighbouring NHS organisations.

About the role

You will be a key point of contact for students, parents, schools and partner organisations, and will keep our events running smoothly through careful planning, accurate record keeping and close attention to detail. It is a varied role that would suit someone who has a strong eye for detail and enjoys working with people, managing several tasks at once and seeing an event come together.

As our Campus Events Coordinator, you will support the planning, organisation and delivery of a diverse programme of widening access and recruitment activities and events. This includes residential events for prospective Bath students, campus events and offer holder days. You will schedule and organise events, take bookings from schools, colleges and partner organisations, and help arrange the logistics that make an event a success, such as room bookings, catering and parking.

You will provide administrative support for our residential and access programmes, including the Autism Summer School, Discover Bath and Step into Bath. This involves contacting prospective participants, processing applications, supporting the development of programme timetables and preparing participant support plans. You will also work closely with partner organisations, including IntoUniversity, on the communication and administration of jointly delivered events.

Student Recruitment and Admissions is responsible for attracting, recruiting and admitting students to the University of Bath.

Our widening access and outreach work supports students from a wide range of backgrounds to progress to higher education, through programmes and events delivered on campus, in schools and colleges, and in partnership with other organisations. An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Multi skilled Plumber to join the Campus Infrastructure team at the University of Bath, a UK top 10 university.

About the role

Working as part of our in-house maintenance team, you will undertake planned and reactive maintenance across the University’s academic, residential and sports facilities, primarily on campus with occasional work at our city locations.

The role involves fault finding, diagnosis, maintenance and repair across plumbing and associated mechanical building services, including hot and cold-water systems, sanitaryware, internal drainage and associated piped services. You will also undertake small to medium-sized installations and alteration works, and work alongside other trades where required.

You may also undertake defined minor electrical activities, including isolation, reinstatement, testing and making safe, where appropriately trained, competent and authorised.

About you

You must have served a recognised Apprenticeship at Level 2 or above, for example an NVQ/SVQ Level 2 Diploma in Plumbing and Heating, or a recognised equivalent/legacy plumbing qualification demonstrating occupational competence to at least the JIB-PMES Plumber Blue Card standard.

You will be a good problem solver with great customer service skills and will have:

• experience of installation and repair using copper, steel, ABS, PVC, MDPE and press-fit pipe systems.
• excellent time management skills
• demonstrable electrical skills or willing to train for them
• a Gas Safe qualification would be an advantage

This is a full-time role, working 36.5 hours per week Monday to Friday 08:15 to 16:45, however, to suit operational requirements you may be requested to work flexibly at any time between 7am and 7pm, and you will be expected to take part in the on-call rota.

You will be required to drive University vehicles as part of normal duties, and therefore should hold a valid UK driving licence, have appropriate independent means of transport, and live no further than one hour’s journey time to the University.

As a Domestic Assistant, you’ll play an important role in providing clean, safe and welcoming accommodation for students and visitors at the University of Bath.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Preparing student and guest rooms for occupancy.
• Reporting maintenance issues, accidents and incidents.

We currently have full-time and part-time opportunities:

About the role

You will support all aspects of the University's study abroad and exchange activities, taking a lead role in coordinating, maintaining and renewing international partnership agreements that enable students to access global study experiences. The role also involves maintaining accurate partnership records, producing reports and management information, and supporting data-informed decision-making relating to global opportunities and exchange partnerships. You will also help to develop and maintain a range of marketing and communications materials that support these opportunities.

The duties of this busy and varied role require excellent organisational and communication skills, strong attention to detail, and a high level of autonomy. The successful candidate will be a confident, effective team player who can build positive relationships with a wide range of people, including international students, staff, and external stakeholders from around the world.

You will possess excellent IT skills including Microsoft 365 applications (particularly Excel, Word, PowerPoint), and be confident working with databases, online systems and web-based resources. You will also be able to work to tight deadlines whilst maintaining close attention to detail in a calm and professional manner. Previous knowledge and experience of international mobility programmes would be desirable.

Are you ready for the challenge of obtaining and managing electronic and physical books from a range of suppliers, for the benefit of our university community? Can you help a diverse range of users with their reprographics queries? In this role, you will be working directly with our users, supporting them to make the most of the University’s Copy and Print services, and providing both staff and students with important Reading List support. You will help build the Library’s growing collection of print and ebooks, and online/print journal and database subscriptions. We'll help you to develop your skills in a friendly working environment, with great colleagues.

About the role

This Senior Library Assistant role within the Acquisitions, Copy and Print and Reading Lists, and  is a varied one, working within the teams to achieve the smooth and efficient provision of library resources. You will work with other team members to ensure the provision of a first-rate Copy and Print service to all users, underpinned by an excellent, customer-focused approach. You will be involved with searching and ordering items for end use, and you will digitise print resources for Reading Lists and Document delivery purposes. You will also be troubleshooting access issues, collecting data to inform purchasing decisions and service developments, and you will be integral in the acquisition of reading list material, working with the Library’s Reading List system, Leganto.  

This position offers an excellent opportunity to work in an involved library role on a permanent, full-time basis.

The Undergraduate Admissions Team is part of our large and diverse Student Recruitment & Admissions department, which includes also student recruitment, outreach, widening access, learning partnership and postgraduate teams. Taking ownership of a portfolio of courses you will provide an outstanding experience for our applicants throughout their application process.

Assessing UCAS applications you will make and apply offers or unsuccessful decisions for these applicants in a fair, consistent, and transparent way. You will also be checking decisions made by other members of the team and assessing the fee status of applicants.

Strong organisation and prioritisation skills are essential to working in our fast-paced environment. You will also have strong interpersonal and communication skills, particularly when supporting enquiries from prospective undergraduate students and their representatives. You will also occasionally be involved in representing the Admissions Team and the University as part of student recruitment activities, including occasional attendance at recruitment fairs.

About you

The role of Student Support and Safeguarding is to ensure that students, parents/guardians, and staff can readily access the information, advice and support available, enabling them to fully benefit from their academic and broader experience.

The Centre of Excellence in Water-Based Early-Warning Systems for Health Protection (CWBE) is a £13m interdisciplinary research centre, established in 2024 with funding from Research England’s Expanding Excellence in England (E3) scheme, together with contributions from the University of Bath and partners. 

We are working to transform public and environmental health management, establishing the first Urban Living Lab facility; a state-of-the-art digital water sensing platform, training base and ideas hub. Our ambition is to provide a practical roadmap for a UK early-warning system, co-produced with regional and national stakeholders to serve as a sentinel and multigenerational testing site for research and innovation. This platform will enable testing of public health and environmental interventions focused on increasing community resilience to disease, pollution and climate change impacts. 

We are looking to recruit a Prize Fellow:

• to conduct high quality research as an independent researcher within the umbrella of the Centre, including securing funding via research grants and/or fellowship applications and building a research group appropriate to the Centre and discipline
• to develop international research links
• to contribute to advanced teaching and supervision, training and research of graduate students
• to promote research in the discipline, including public engagement.

About you

We particularly welcome applications from researchers whose interests align with CWBE's research strengths in antimicrobial resistance, pathogen surveillance, wastewater-based epidemiology, and the environmental and public health impacts of pharmaceuticals and other bioactive compounds.

The Faculty of Humanities & Social Sciences and the Faculty of Science are seeking a number of Student Support Officers to play a key role in enhancing the taught student experience from induction through to graduation.

You will work collaboratively with academic and professional services staff to contribute to an effective integrated student support system within a specific academic department, as well as help to identify students at risk of not succeeding, utilising the internal processes/services available. 

You will provide support for colleagues and processes supporting students through academic advising, course engagement monitoring, Disability Access Plans, Health, Wellbeing & Support for Study plans, Return to Study, and liaising with Student Support & Safeguarding.

The post-holders will foster and maintain excellent working relationships with colleagues in the academic department, the Faculty Student Support & Safeguarding and across the wider University.

We are particularly interested in strengthening our expertise in proteomics, as well as in cheminformatics, artificial intelligence, and data science. Applicants should have expertise in at least one or two of these areas demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively within an interdisciplinary environment. The role will involve close interaction with engineers, chemists, biologists, and social scientists, making strong teamwork and communication skills essential.

You should hold a PhD and be able to demonstrate the potential to develop an internationally leading research programme, to acquire significant funding from UK and international sources, and to produce high-quality publications.

The Senior Developer role sits within the Delivery & Operations pillar of the Digital, Data and Technology Group.

As a Senior Developer (SITS) within the Platforms & Applications group, the postholder will work on the University’s Student Record System – a critical system for recruiting students, managing their academic journey, and awarding degrees.

They will be responsible for the development, configuration, support, and maintenance of the University’s Tribal SITS software, along with related applications, services, and integrations.

The Senior Developer (SITS) will join a small team working closely with data owners across the University – including Admissions, Academic Registry, and Finance – to ensure the system is configured to support the efficient operation of the institution. The University is currently migrating its core applications to cloud platforms, and experience with similar migrations (even on different systems) will be of interest.

The successful candidate will demonstrate experience in supporting and configuring Tribal SITS, as well as integrating SITS within other University applications.

In addition to in-application configuration, candidates will need technical skills in HTML, JavaScript, SQL, Git, and related tools.

We’re looking for an enthusiastic and motivated technician to join our team. The Department of Mechanical Engineering is top 10 in the UK for our undergraduate courses and internationally renowned for our research output. You can be part of this success through the technical support you provide to our students and staff.

Based mainly in the Student Workshop, the post-holder will work as part of a team of multi-skilled technicians to provide technical support to both teaching and research in the Department. The team supports timetabled undergraduate teaching sessions, numerous student competition teams and a wide range of research activities.

The role requires use of conventional machine tools (milling machines, lathes) with the opportunity to progress onto CNC machine tools, where training would be provided. The post-holder will contribute to the teaching and supervision of undergraduates in the use of machine/hand tools and during final year individual research projects. 

The post-holder will also be required to oversee student activities in the workshop and carry out inductions to ensure safe working at all times. 

About you

You will need to have substantial experience working with mechanical workshop machine tools, hand tools and an aptitude for practical work. We appreciate a wide range of skills in our team, so if you have experience of assembly, fitting, fabrication or welding this will be an advantage.

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral research associate to work with Prof. Daniel Loughran as part of the EPSRC-funded programme grant "Unifying Arithmetic Statistics". The post is available for a fixed term of three years. The planned start date is 1st October 2027 but some flexibility may be possible.

The project spans several topics in arithmetic statistics in a broad sense, and the applicant at Bath should have expertise in one of the following areas:

• The arithmetic of algebraic stacks.
• Rational points on higher-dimensional varieties and local-global principles.
• Arithmetic statistics, including the distribution of number fields, class groups, and rational points.

The successful candidates will work on research topics connected with singularity formation and stability in self-gravitating fluids as part of the EPSRC grant “Criticality in Newtonian Gravitational Collapse.” 

Applicants should have, or be close to completing, a PhD in mathematics, with a strong background in analysis and nonlinear PDEs. Expertise in areas related to fluid mechanics, nonlinear wave equations, or hyperbolic conservation laws is particularly welcome.

The successful candidate will join the Analysis Group at Bath, a leading research group consisting of 14 permanent academic staff, 4 postdocs and around 12 PhD students. 

There are weekly seminars during term-time and regular reading groups and graduate courses.

About the role

We are looking for a Sport and Exercise Medicine specialist with an established track record of research and delivery of postgraduate clinical education alongside their clinical expertise. 

Our MSc in Sport and Exercise Medicine together with our MSc Sports Physiotherapy and new MSc Football Medicine programmes combine online learning with residential teaching weeks, and these courses are specifically designed to accommodate the professional development needs of practicing doctors and physiotherapists with an interest in sport and exercise.  

These programmes are established within the PG education landscape and are well respected for their academic rigour and strong emphasis on reflective practice. 

Working alongside the Clinical Director of Football Medicine, the successful applicant will have responsibility for the coordination of clinical teaching during residential teaching weeks, along with an oversight of the clinical content of the online academic units on the Sport and Exercise Medicine course. 

The teaching responsibilities will be centred around clinical examination skills and case management, career development and evidence-based practice. 

The role will also include the co-ordination of a team of Professional Development Advisors to support students through developing their clinical experience and expertise within Sport and Exercise Medicine.

The Clinical Director will be involved in ongoing development of the programme and its promotion nationally and internationally.

The role is associated with the Royal Society International Collaboration Award “Operator learning for gradient flows with applications in imaging” led by Dr Yury Korolev (University of Bath) and Dr Takashi Furuya (Doshisha University, Kyoto). Join the HOLLOW SILK project, an ambitious research project funded by the Advanced Research + Invention Agency (ARIA) through its Universal Fabricators programme. HOLLOW SILK aims to develop a novel manufacturing platform based on engineered silk, for the production of microstructured optical fibres. By combining expertise in biomaterials, fibre manufacturing, chemistry, photonics and engineering, the project will establish innovative routes to advanced materials and structures that are difficult, or even impossible, to achieve using conventional manufacturing technologies.

 The successful candidate will play a central role in establishing, operating and maintaining the project's experimental manufacturing capabilities. Working alongside a team comprising two postdoctoral researchers at the University of Bath and three further postdoctoral researchers based at Tufts University (Silklab), you will help develop, build and operate experimental fibre manufacturing and materials-processing systems. 

The team and environment

Based within the Centre for Photonics at the University of Bath, you will work alongside Professor William Wadsworth, Dr Rox Middleton and Dr Soraya Caixeiro, and collaborate with leading international partners including Professor Fiorenzo Omenetto and Dr Giulia Guidetti (Silklab, Tufts University) and Dr David Breslauer (USA). 

The successful candidate will join a highly interdisciplinary and international team. Alongside two University of Bath postdoctoral researchers, the project includes two further postdoctoral researchers based at Tufts University, a research technician at the University of Bath, and administration person providing significant opportunities for collaboration, exchange of expertise and international engagement.

In this role you will

• Support the development, assembly and operation of experimental manufacturing systems and laboratory facilities.
• Design, build and modify bespoke research equipment, instrumentation and prototype manufacturing platforms.
• Assist with experimental research activities, including materials preparation, equipment operation, data collection and analysis.
• Maintain laboratory equipment, inventories, technical documentation and safe working practices.

About you

This role is part of the UK Catalysis Hub where the practical work will take place at the Research Complex at Harwell (RCaH), working within the Hub laboratories.

The UK Catalysis Hub is a national consortium of 46 universities, 15 companies, the STFC Harwell science facilities, and 13 international partners established in 2013 to coordinate and advance UK catalysis research and connect it internationally. Now in its third phase of funding, its priority research areas include sustainability and net zero, digital chemistry, and advanced characterisation methods. One of its core missions is to support the training and career development of early career researchers via community events.

This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled and motivated postdoctoral researcher to work at the interface of heterogeneous catalysis and in situ spectroscopy, to understand molecular behaviour in zeolite catalysts for sustainable aviation fuels.

This one-year project brings together complementary expertise in catalytic testing and in situ spectroscopy (Lezcano Gonzalez, UK Catalysis Hub/Manchester) with atomistic modelling and simulation of microporous catalysts carried out by the main supervisor (O’Malley, Bath). The work will focus on the alcohol-to-jet (ATJ) process, a key route to sustainable aviation fuels, and aims to establish how adsorption, diffusion, and competitive site interactions within zeolite micropores govern catalytic performance, selectivity, and stability.

The project will involve catalytic testing in fixed-bed reactors and in situ FTIR/DRIFTS spectroscopy to probe adsorption, acid-site interactions, and reaction intermediates. The successful candidate will be based at Harwell, gaining experience across multiple techniques.

This role offers a unique opportunity to develop an integrated experimental skillset working closely with expertise in molecular simulation, with strong links to national facilities (ISIS and Diamond) and future large-scale research programmes. There will also be opportunities to engage with industrial partners working on sustainable aviation fuels and advanced catalyst materials.

About you

Ideal candidate will have experience in the use of vibrational spectroscopy to study the adsorption of molecules into porous materials, and ideally synthesis and characterisation of zeolite catalysts. 

Apart from excellent technical skills, good organisational, communication and presentation skills are essential for this role, as is the ability to work well in an interdisciplinary environment. Interaction with partners of the UK Catalysis Hub and participation in their events will be expected.

About the role

Working within a highly collaborative team, Pre-Award Development Officers play a crucial role in providing expert advice to academic researchers across the university applying for external research funding. If successful in your application to this post, you will ensure all research applications and awards are reviewed and developed to improve their quality and meet university and funder rules.

This role requires excellent organisational, interpersonal and communication skills along with a good understanding of the research funding landscape for the higher education sector, including familiarity with relevant sources of funding.

Advance Your Engineering Career Through Innovation and Impact

The Department of Mechanical Engineering is seeking to recruit a Postdoctoral Research Associate to investigate the fluid dynamics and heat transfer in rotating compressor cavities of gas turbines engines. The project is funded by the EPSRC in collaboration with the University of Surrey, Rolls-Royce and Siemens Energy. We are seeking a driven and capable individual to lead a high-impact project developing the next generation of hydrogen-compatible turbomachinery technology.

This position will offer you a way to apply your experience to a project that could shape the future of green energy technology and net-zero aerospace. As the Research Associate, you’ll lead a technically ambitious project with real-world application and long-term value. You’ll have the chance to:

• Take ownership of a major research project to advance the understanding of fluid-dynamics and heat transfer through innovative experimental methods
• Work at the intersection of academia and industry with support from both
• Develop your skills in leadership, innovation, and strategic technical development
• Gain access to training and a personal development allowance

This role offers the autonomy of an academic position, with the added benefits of structured support and mentoring.

The goal is to investigate experimentally the buoyancy-induced rotating flow in a compressor cavity at low TRL. The research is underpinned by brand new instrumentation and to be conducted over a range of non-dimensional, engine-representative conditions. The study includes a fundamental exploration of boundary-layer transition from laminar to turbulent flow at high Grashof number. The experiments will be complemented by computational simulation at the University of Surrey, with the aim to scale data to higher TRL. The successful completion and implementation of this research will improve engine design methods at Rolls-Royce and Siemens for next-generation hydrogen-compatible engines.

About you

The ideal candidate will have:

• A PhD in a relevant engineering field or experience in industrial R&D
• Experience with experimentation and data analysis tools such as Matlab
• Proficiency in CAD
• Confidence working independently and engaging with multiple stakeholders
