Your research statement needs to outline your plans and intentions for research activity and grant capture over the coming five years. This document will be treated in the strictest confidence and with full respect for ownership.</li><li id="isPasted">A second document describing your teaching vision and plans. This should explain how your experience and qualifications enable you to teach across the full range of our chemical engineering degrees, and how you would support their future development. Please also outline your approach to incorporating systems thinking throughout the curriculum. In addition, describe how you promote equity, diversity, and inclusion in your everyday work, particularly when teaching and mentoring students and researchers. Finally, explain how you have helped create a positive, respectful, and supportive environment for both staff and students.</li></ul><p>Both documents are mandatory components of the selection process, without which we will be unable to progress your application.</p><h2>About you</h2><p>You will bring a strong interdisciplinary track record in life cycle assessment (LCA), systems thinking, and/or material flow analysis (MFA), grounded in chemical engineering. You will play a key role in teaching across our programmes and in building links with researchers across the Faculty of Engineering and Design. Your research will focus on quantifying environmental impacts across complex systems, applying systems-level approaches to evaluate trade-offs, resource constraints, and pathways towards more sustainable futures, and align with one of our <a href="https://www.bath.ac.uk/corporate-information/faculty-of-engineering-design-research-centres-and-institutes/" rel="noreferrer noopener" target="_blank">Research Centres</a>. Additional opportunities for collaboration are provided through the <a href="https://www.bath.ac.uk/research-institutes/institute-of-sustainability-and-climate-change/" rel="noreferrer noopener" target="_blank">Institute of Sustainability and Climate Change (ISCC)</a>.             <h2 id="isPasted">About the role</h2><p>This is a supervisory position with responsibility for the day to day operation of technical services in support of teaching and research activities in the Department of Chemical Engineering. The postholder will oversee and facilitate service provision and support across a platform of specialist laboratories and workshops.&nbsp;</p><p>The Technical Supervisor will assist the Technical Manager in establishing best practice in the supervision of technical staff and laboratory and workshop facilities and the forward planning and optimum utilisation of materials, equipment, and technical resources. The post holder will discharge these responsibilities in addition to maintaining their own &lsquo;hands on&rsquo; specialist technical activities.&nbsp;</p><p>The post holder will motivate, manage and lead the technical services team for the Chemical Engineering laboratories, employing a high degree of interpersonal skills, technical expertise, as well as providing support and guidance to team members, academic colleagues and students. Key responsibilities of the role include:</p><ul><li>Allocation and successful delivery of tasks, duties and services provided by the technical team in line with operational needs.</li><li>Provision of specialist technical advice and assistance to colleagues including academic, research, technical and administrative staff, undergraduate and postgraduate students.&nbsp;</li><li>Managing laboratory and workshop spaces where custodianship of space or equipment has been allocated to the team, including managing access to these spaces.</li><li>Ensuring robust health and safety management in line with the Faculty Laboratory Code of Conduct. Actively promotes H&amp;S culture and compliance within both team and department.</li><li>Facilitating laboratory and equipment moves or refurbishments, managing storage and disposal of unwanted equipment.</li><li>In conjunction with the CRF Facility Leads, ensure regular testing, servicing and maintenance is performed as required for laboratory equipment and machines, and that suitable records are maintained.</li><li>Membership of and engagement with various Faculty, Departmental and University committees and working groups as required</li><li>Purchasing and procurement for various projects and activities</li></ul><h2 id="isPasted">About you</h2><p id="isPasted">Applicants should ideally hold a first degree in an engineering or science-based discipline and have considerable experience of good laboratory practice and the management of equipment and facilities. Previous experience working in a laboratory, university or research environment is essential. Candidates will need to be able to demonstrate practical ability and a good understanding of the management of health and safety in a workplace environment.</p><h2>Further information</h2><p id="isPasted">This full-time post is offered on an open-ended contract with a commencing salary of &pound;38,784 per annum rising to &pound;46,049 per annum through annual increments.
