Profile

Dr Wen-Shao Chang is a Lecturer in Department of Architecture & Civil Engineering at University of Bath, he is specialised in timber and bamboo engineering. He aims to promote use of renewable materials to deliver a sustainable future via his research. Wen-Shao is Placements Tutor for the Department.

Dr Wen-Shao Chang was awarded his PhD, MSc and BSc degrees from the Department of Architecture at National Cheng Kung University, Taiwan. He has academic backgrounds in both Architecture and Structural Engineering. Before being appointed as a lecturer in Department of Architecture & Civil Engineering at University of Bath, Dr Chang worked as a JSPS Research Fellow in the Research Institute for Sustainable Humanosphere (RISH) of Kyoto University, Japan. He was also invited as a RISH Visiting Associate Professor at Kyoto University, Japan, in 2012.

Research

Wen-Shao’s research interests follow three main themes: timber and bamboo engineering, earthquake engineering, conservation of historic buildings. He has excellent links with academics in Japan and Taiwan; he also works with academics in Canada, China, Singapore and some European countries. He has authored and co-authored a number of papers in international peer reviewed journals, and is constantly invited as reviewer for some peer reviewed journals, such as Engineering Structures, Construction and Building Materials, Journal of Wood Science, Wood and Fibre Science.
