Dr. Rachel Paskell (Academic Director and Director of Studies, Doctorate in Clinical Psychology) and Dr. Catherine Butler (incoming Clinical Director and Deputy Programme Director, Doctorate in Clinical Psychology), along with DClinPsy alumnus Dr. Juliet Young, delivered a talk on their work as clinical psychologists to a packed audience at Toppings, Bath, on April 25th, 2024.

The trio talked about their new book, “An Illustrated Guide To Clinical Psychology”, a resource for aspiring, trainee, and newly qualified clinical psychologists to learn more about their field.

The book unpacks questions for anyone curious about what a career in clinical psychology might look like: “What does a day in the life of a practicing clinical psychologist look like?”, “What therapeutic approaches do they use?” “How do you become a clinical psychologist?”

The authors aim to demystify the profession to new entrants by using accessible language and lively illustrations, drawn by, Dr Juliet Young who previously studied the Clinical Psychology DClinPsy at the University of Bath.

The authors also took part in a Q and A session with prospective students interested in applying to the competitive Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at the University of Bath. This programme is a professional training course for Clinical Psychologists in the United Kingdom. It leads to a doctoral qualification approved by the UK Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and accredited by the British Psychological Society (BPS), British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP: Level 2), and Association for Family Therapy (AFT: Foundation Level).
