How long have you worked at the Uni? What does your role involve?

I have been here about a year, and I love my job. I am Operations Assistant for Student Services, so I work on Helpdesk for students, and I do administration for Disability, Counselling, and Wellbeing.

What would you most like to achieve while at the University?

It’s quite staff focussed – everyone jokes I am “Social secretary” for our department because I arrange so many social activities for the team! We recently did a sponsored Colour run and raised £400 for Mind. I also bake birthday cakes for everyone. I want to make the office environment a lovely place to be as we all spend most of our time here.

Name one thing that makes you feel proud to work at the University of Bath?

The wellbeing and mental health side of Student Services, I think we provide a great service. Especially when you see a student come in upset for a Wellbeing appointment and they leave with a smile on their face – that makes me feel very proud to know we are having an effect.

What piece of advice would you like to give to a student?

Chill out!! I’ve been a student and I know everything seems like such a big deal, but when you get older you wish you had enjoyed your time at uni more rather than worrying!

As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?

I wanted to be a fashion designer, and I studied textiles Design at Bath Spa. As well as working here I have my own textiles business so I design and make printed accessories (www.robynnorthover.com) – which I love. I have kind of ticked that box of what I wanted to be when I grew up!

What was your first job?

I had a paper round, and it was the best route in Dorset - I didn't get paid very much but I'd get loads of chocolate as tips for Christmas!

What is your dream holiday destination and why?

I really, really want to go to India, because of the culture and the textiles industry is amazing there. Oh and Japan too. Anywhere really I just love to travel!

If you could meet anyone in the world dead or alive who would it be and why?

John Candy. Uncle Buck is one of my favourite films ever, and he just seems so jolly and I love him!

Which one superpower would you like to possess?

Stopping time. I'd like to be able to pause moments because I feel like days aren’t long enough, and also to pause moments that are amazing and be able to enjoy the great moment for a little bit longer.

What would people be surprised to learn about you?

This will be a big surprise to people in my department - I used to be painfully shy, but now you can't shut me up! I now get myself in the most random situations, like I ended up on a tour bus travelling to Plymouth on a weeknight.... I got part way there but I realised I had work the next day and had to get off and get back to Bath!
