The University achieved Gold awards, the highest awards possible, for both the overall assessment and the two underpinning assessments of student outcomes and student experience.

The Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) is a national scheme run by the Office for Students (OfS). Higher Education institutions in England are assessed on the extent to which a provider delivers an excellent experience and outcomes for its mix of undergraduate students and across the range of its undergraduate courses and subjects.

The Gold award in each aspect of the assessment means that the TEF panel judged that at Bath the undergraduate student experience and student outcomes are typically outstanding.

The ratings from TEF 2023 will last for four years from September 2023.

Professor Ian White, Vice-Chancellor and President of the University of Bath, said: “I am delighted that the University of Bath has achieved Gold in all three Teaching Excellence Framework 2023 ratings.

“This is a testament to the work, commitment and engagement of so many members of our University community, across our academic and professional services staff and our student community. We can rightly take pride that the experience and outcomes for our undergraduate students have been judged to be among the best in the country.

“I would also like to pay tribute to all those colleagues who worked so hard on our TEF submission, recognising the detailed work undertaken, and of course the high-quality teaching and support of learning that we have delivered in recent years, which has allowed us to demonstrate such excellence.”

In the coming weeks summaries of the TEF panels’ findings for each higher education provider are expected to be published by OfS.

Professor Julian Chaudhuri, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Education and Global), said: “This is a superb result and I join Ian in congratulating and thanking all our staff and students who have made this possible.

“Since the last TEF exercise the University has continued to enhance both how we approach student experience and our education provision, and it is extremely gratifying to see these decisions recognised with triple Gold ratings in the TEF 2023.

“I look forward to sharing more with our community when the TEF 2023 panel summary statements are published in due course, but for now thank you once again.”
