Create a University of Bath Mail account on iPhone and iPad

iPhone

For iOS 4.1 - previous versions are very similar.

1. On the iPhone, tap Settings.
2. Scroll down and tap Mail, Contacts, Calendars
3. Tap Add Account...
4. Tap Other.
5. Tap Add Mail Account.
6. Fill in the fields using the information below:

Name: First Last
Address: University email address (either f.bloggs@bath.ac.uk or fb123@bath.ac.uk
Password: Your University password
Description: whatever you want to call this account (e.g. Bath IMAP)

Under Incoming Mail Server, type the following:

Host Name: imaphost.bath.ac.uk
User Name: Your University username
Password: Your University password (which should already be filled in)

Under Outgoing Mail Server, type the following:

Host Name: smtphost.bath.ac.uk
User Name: Your University username
Password: Your University password

7. When you enter the last password, your iPhone should pause while verifying these details. You should then see a screen entitled 'IMAP' - tap Save in the top right and you should be done.

 

Please note: The University requires SSL for incoming mail at all times, and on outgoing connections. The iPhone should automatically detect these settings.

You can verify your Advanced settings by going to the home screen and tapping:

Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > your Bath account (e.g. Bath IMAP) > SMTP > Primary Server

Outgoing Settings
Use SSL: ON
Authentication: Password
Server Port: 587

...and Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > your Bath account (e.g. Bath IMAP) > Advanced

Incoming Settings
Use SSL: ON
Authentication: password
Server Port: 993

 

iPad

1.  Open Settings

2.  Select Mail, Contacts, Calendars

3.  Open Add Account

6.  Insert Display Name, email address, your campus password and a Mailbox Description e.g. University Folders

7. Select Next

8.  Enter the full details for the email settings:

Incoming Mail Server
hostname: imaphost.bath.ac.uk
Outgoing Mail Server
hostname: smtphost.bath.ac.uk

Make sure enter your Campus username and password for both incoming and outgoing server settings to avoid being prompted each time an email is sent

9.  Select Next

Note: After a short period, the server should respond and each setting will show a tick at the right-hand side momentarily. If there is a problem, check each entry and try again.

10.  When all the settings are accepted, this next window will appear

12.  Check that you are receiving mail by pressing the Home button and selecting Mail to populate your mailbox (Select Mailbox/Inbox to see mail, if not visible initially).

13.  Return to Settings and select 'Mail, Contacts, Calendars’ and open your new account: University Folders (or whatever name you entered)

14.  On the next window, under IMAP select your email account

15.  Open Advanced (may require scrolling)

16.  In this next window, check that the Server Port for Incoming Mail Settings is 993 and SSL is enabled (turned ON). The location to save your Drafts, Sent and Deleted emails can also be selected here, e.g. there are two options: these emails can be saved locally on iPad/iPhone or saved under your Inbox on the mail server.

17.  To save emails to the server, open Drafts Mailbox under Mailbox Behaviours and scroll to your drafts folder in your Inbox folder list and select it.

18.  Select Advanced to return to previous window.

19.  Perform the same procedure for Sent and Deleted Mailbox location options, e.g.

Note: There may be a sent and sent-mail folder under your Inbox. In general, sent-mail is the default folder, but check the folder location first. Similarly, the Deleted folder is named Trash on the server. See next image.

20.  Finally, select Account and open SMTP, then open Primary Server

21.  Check that the server port for Outgoing Mail Server Settings is 587 and SSL is enabled
