Email software overview
Email software available
Staff and students generally have several choices of email software through which they can gain access to their university account emails:
- Thunderbird- recommended
- Webmail - recommended
- Outlook 2003
- Mail for Mac
- Windows Mail (Vista)
- Mulberry - unsupported
These different types of email software access the same email server so your messages, address books and mailing lists will be the same. The main differences between the various email software are highlighted below.
Thunderbird
Thunderbird is free software available on all computers in public areas, such as the library, and via Remote Desktop. It is a good all-round email client that support HTMP email and non-European character sets.

Mulberry
Mulberry is email software that can be used on Windows, Linux, Unix and Macintosh systems. Mulberry does not support the display of HTML email, or characters sets needed to display Japanese and Chinese, but these can be displayed in an internet browser.
Mailing lists
If you are looking for software that can send emails to large groups of people, please see the Mailing lists section.
University email can be accessed while on campus or off campus. If you wish you can choose alternative software such as Thunderbird or Outlook 2003 to access your mail.
