If you have answered yes to any of these questions you might like to attend one of our self paced training sessions, designed for those who have some experience using computers but would like to refresh their skills or gain additional knowledge. 

Each session is 2 hours and you can attend as many or few as you need to cover the course material - a trainer will be on hand to provide assistance with the exercises if required.

Due to the University wide upgrade to Office 2010, we currently have no dates for scheduled for Office 2003 training, we do have self paced training dates scheduled for Office 2010However if you would like training in Office 2003 then please let us know and we may be able to schedule a self paced training session for you.

Self Paced Word

Word 1 (Beginners)

Course Summary: Learn how to use some of the more common features of Word.   You will learn how to:

  • Cut, Copy and Paste
  • Format your text
  • Use bullet points and numbering
  • Create columns
  • Create tables
  • Use AutoCorrect
  • Change your page setup
  • Insert pictures

Word 2

Course Summary: Learn how to use the advanced features of Word to produce long documents such as reports and research papers.   You will learn how to:

  • Outline long documents
  • Use styles
  • Add Tables of Contents
  • Insert captions
  • Add bibliographic references
  • Insert footnotes and endnotes
  • Create indexes
  • Use page numbering

Self Paced Powerpoint

Course Summary: This course will introduce you to using PowerPoint so that you can create a professional and visually appealing slide show presentation from your PC.  You will learn to:

  • Add colour and designs
  • Format slides
  • Use animation and graphics
  • View and print presentations

Self Paced Excel

Excel 1

Course Summary: An introduction to the basics of creating and managing spreadsheets with Excel. You will learn how to:

  • Work with numbers
  • Input formulae and functions
  • Use automatic features
  • Create graphs
  • Create lists
  • Modify page layout

Excel 2

Course Summary: This session will introduce you to some of the more advanced features of Excel. You will learn how to:

  • Use filters to sort and query data
  • Create subtotals efficiently
  • Protect worksheets and cells
  • Use conditional logic in formulae (the IF function)

Self Paced Access

Access 1

Course Summary: This course will introduce you to the fundamentals of creating and using an Access database "from scratch"

  • Explore and create a new Access database
  • Design a table
  • Enter data efficiently
  • Edit field properties
  • Define a primary key
  • Create and run a query
