About the Department
Housed in purpose-built, state-of-the-art laboratories, the department has a number of internationally leading research groups who undertake work in a diverse range of areas including chemistry for sustainable energy, catalysis in synthesis, materials chemistry, computational chemistry and electrochemistry. The work is supported by excellent facilities and equipment and attracts funding from EPSRC and BBSRC as well as from charity and industrial partners. Much of the work is interdisciplinary and is carried out in collaboration with groups at other universities or in other departments at Bath. » More
Undergraduate opportunities
We offer a number of undergraduate degrees at MChem and BSc levels. Most of our students follow a programme in Chemistry although variants such as Chemistry for Drug Discovery and Chemistry with Management are also popular. All students are offered the opportunity to spend a year in industry or studying overseas. This helps to make our graduates highly employable and in great demand. Our aim is to offer students a challenging, well supported experience to allow everyone to fulfill their potential and to follow their chosen career path. Practical work is a strong feature of our courses and everyone gets the chance to do project work in the research labs.

Postgraduate opportunities
Research in the Department spans all sub-disciplines, from theoretical physical chemistry to biological and synthetic chemistry and antibody engineering. Major themes that are represented include electrochemistry, polymer chemistry, studies of Langmuir-Blodgett films, organometallic, and main group chemistry, synthetic organic chemistry, asymmetric synthesis, catalysis and computational chemistry.
There are currently openings for PhD study in all areas of chemistry at Bath. However, projects on the vacancies page have specific ear-marked funding.
