The Department's research output is now ranked 9th out of all UK institutions in the 2016 Nature Index. A majority of the University's Nature Index output is in Chemistry, highlighting the quality of our research.

The Nature Index first started in 2012 and is compiled by Nature Publishing Group (NPG). It provides a method of comparison for high-quality research output at institutional, national and regional level.

The Index counts the total number of author credits accumulated by each institution. Data is collected from publications in 68 prestigious science journals.

The University is also going to be featured within the next Nature Index supplement ‘Rising Stars’, which identifies institutions around the world that have increased their output of high-quality scientific research since 2012. This is a supplement to Nature and is an editorial analysis of the Nature Index data.

The University is among one of the top 20 institutions in Europe to have the largest increase of research output since 2012.
