Fees for postgraduate students spending part of the year at Bath

The types of students who might pay less than the full-time standard postgraduate fee.

Factsheet

If you don't study at the University for a full academic year, you might pay less than the full-time postgraduate fee.

Visiting students

If you are studying at a university outside the UK you can apply to study at Bath as a visiting student for one semester or a full academic year.

We cannot accept visiting students for taught postgraduate master's degree courses (MA and MSc).

The Doctoral College manages visiting students at a postgraduate research level. They may have different procedures and tuition fees, so please contact them for details.

You will normally pay your tuition fees based on the length of time you study at Bath. This is calculated weekly based on a 52-week academic year.

Overseas students on fieldwork abroad

If your fee status is Overseas and you spend at least six consecutive months doing fieldwork abroad, you will pay 50% of your normal full-time fee rate for that period. You will pay the standard full-time fee for the rest of the academic year.

Mid-year starters

If you start your course after the start of the academic year, you will pay first-year fees based on the length of time you study at Bath. The fee amount is calculated weekly based on a 52-week year from your start date to the end of the academic year (normally 30 September).

You will pay normal fees for all other years of study.

Occasional students

If you sometimes use the University's facilities but do not receive formal teaching, you will pay a fee based on the amount of time you spend here. The amount you pay is a proportion of the standard postgraduate fee.

See the postgraduate fees for occasional students.

Industrially and externally-based students

If you are registered as an industrially or externally-based candidate for MPhil or PhD, the fee you pay is a proportion of the standard postgraduate fee.
