Natural Sciences

Undergraduate courses starting in 2025

From researching elephant behaviour in Zimbabwe, to studying laser physics in Oxford or working as a metallurgist in Australia, studying Natural Sciences at Bath can open up a world of possibilities.

Natural Sciences allows you to study more than one science subject, so you can shape your degree to your interests and career aspirations.

Here at Bath, you'll pick two main sciences from these options:

  • biology
  • biochemistry
  • chemistry
  • pharmacology
  • physics
  • environmental science (from year 2 on the BSc)

The combination of disciplines means you’ll gain a wide range of skills to be able to approach scientific problems from multiple angles. This is a unique perspective and is highly sought after by employers. You can adjust your level of specialisation as your career plans develop, and even widen your course further by adding units from an additional subject, including:

  • a third science
  • management
  • education
  • psychology
  • mathematics

Please note that not all subject combinations are available. Full details are on the individual course pages.

As a Natural Sciences student at Bath, you'll get to:

  • Play to your strengths or take on new challenges by choosing your own pathway to suit your interests and strengths.
  • Gain extra experience and boost your employability by applying for an optional professional placement or study abroad, supported by our specialist teams.
  • Be involved in our high-level research, with access to staff from different departments.
  • Be ready for a wide range of career options both scientific and non-scientific. Some of the jobs our recent graduates have gone on to include climate change policy advisor, medical writer, headteacher, pilot and software engineer.
