Improving disability access on campus

In response to a concern raised in the Institutional Review in 2013, we have created a method for quickly reporting and responding to disability access concerns, here on campus, know as the 'Gold Button'. We believe that this service will enhance everyone's experience of visiting, studying and working the University.

Staff and students can email with any concerns they have. These might include:

  • lifts not working or being used as goods lifts
  • designated disabled parking bays obstructed or being abused
  • external routes including ramps and steps littered or slippery from algae growth
  • automatic doors not working
  • regular doors being stiff and heavy to open
  • alarm pull cords in accessible toilet not working or tied up out of reach
  • fire escape routes and doors obstructed
  • lighting of main routes not working

The Estates Helpdesk team manage the receipt of an response to 'Gold Button' reports. They ensure that anyone raising an issue is kept informed of all actions by the Estates team.
