  • Train lines in and around Bristol will be closed to allow for electrification work to be completed through Bristol Parkway.  This will then be followed by work to double the number of tracks between Bristol Parkway and Bristol Temple Meads with the Filton Four Track project. The work will involve both weekend and weekday closures and will impact on all long distance and local services that normally operate through Bristol Parkway or Bristol Temple Meads.
  • In December 2018 and in early 2019 National Rail will be conducting work on track layouts and depot access. This will result in some changes to the Great Western Railway (GWR) December timetable and will be later reviewed in May, 2019. The works are essential to facilitate necessary improvemets on the exsisting infrastructure and to allow the continued roll out of the new Intercity Express Train service. The new Intercity Express Train service will be more reliable, have more seats and will offer faster journeys than the exsisiting services.

  • Bath & North East Somerset Council has supplied the University with a bicycle repair kit including a pump, lubricants and brushes. The kit is available to borrow from Security in the Library.

Travelling in icy conditions

During the winter months, icy conditions can make travelling to and from the campus difficult. Read more about gritting and salting on campus.

Cycling in icy conditions

Winter weather conditions can also sometimes be challenging for cyclists and hospitals experience a sharp increase of cycling related injuries.

The greatest risk is often icy surfaces and hidden obstructions; cyclists should consider the road and weather conditions before setting off. If conditions are icy or slippery they should consider other means of transport such as public transport or lift sharing.

Bath and North East Somerset Council offer guidance in the form of a 'Think Twice' cycling in icy weather leaflet, case study information and a free 2-hour adult cycling training.
