Student visa errors

If you notice an error on your Student visa, such as an incorrect expiry date or wrong spelling of your name, you will need to get it corrected.

Making sure your expiry date is correct

Undergraduate and postgraduate students should be granted four months beyond the end date of their course.

Students on short-term courses

If you are on:

  • a pre-sessional course of six months or less, you should be granted to the end of the course plus up to a maximum of one month
  • an English or another course of 12 months or less but more than six months’ duration, you should be granted to the end of the course plus two months (to the end of the month)
  • a course of six months or less, you should be granted to the end of the course plus up to a maximum of seven days

Dependants of any student should be granted the same period as the student.

Getting your visa errors corrected

If you have a full visa in your passport which was issued overseas (Entry Clearance), visit gov.uk to correct your endorsement.

If you have a Biometric Residence permit, you need to:

  • inform an Immigration Student Adviser if you applied it in the UK and the error is with your expiry date or the conditions of the visa (for example, work) before applying for an Administrative Review

  • complete the online form and wait for further instructions from UKVI via email for all other corrections

After submitting your corrections

Be prepared to wait as caseworkers may take a while to respond. Don't let your visa expire while waiting for a response.
