Update on national pay negotiations 2012
The New JNCHES (Joint Negotiating Committee for Higher Education Staff) meetings for 2012-13 have concluded, with the employers making a final offer of 1% increase on all pay points from 1 August 2012.
The trade unions’ joint claim included an increase on all pay points of 7% (Retail Price Index as 3.7% in February 2012 plus an additional 3.3%), a commitment to the Living Wage and further work on equality issues.
UCEA (Universities and Colleges Employers Association) estimate that meeting the unions’ pay claim of 7% would cost the higher education sector in the region of £1bn.
Following consultations with their members, UCU and UNISON have both rejected the employers' offer. UCU have formally invoked the dispute resolution procedure as set out in the New JNCHES agreement.
