Hazard and Risk Management

The health and safety of individuals can be significantly affected by the workplace and its activities which is why it is important that all work related actvities are assessed and control measures implemented where relevant to reduce the risk to as low as reasonably practical.

A hazard is defined as anything which is capable of causing harm and risk is the likelihood that harm will be caused  as a consequence of the hazard together with its severity.

There are inevitably a number of activities undertaken at the University which are in some way or another duplicated by more than one team. All activities and hazards need to be assessed for risk but it makes sense that where such assessments can be shared then this should be done and so to this end a risk assessment library has been established. The library is available to host all future risk assessments so that further sharing of information can take place.
