Occupational Health
Occupational health is about the exposure of people at work to harmful or hazardous substances and environments which may lead to ill health. There are four main elements of occupational health at the University :
-
Occupational Health Assessments
-
Health Surveillance
-
Confidential Counselling
-
Specialist Occupational Health Advice
Occupational Health Assessments
Assessments are used to identify areas and activities which may be susceptible to specific occupational hazards. These assessments are then used to determine suitable health surveillance and other controls.
Health Surveillance
Health surveillance is used to monitor wellbeing and to implement speedy intervention should it be required.
Confidential Counselling
The University provides an Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) which provides free confidential advice upon request to all members of staff wishing to seek support for work related matters. The self-referral service means you just ring 01225 825960 or 01225 824484 and arrange an appointment direct with the Counsellor. At busy times you may need to leave a message but the Counselling Service will get back to you.
An independent counselling service is provided for all non work related matters and available from Recourse.
Specialist Occupational Health Advice
Medical professionals are available to the University as and when required to provide specialist advice on any occupational health matter. These professionals work to standards set by the Department of Health and in accordance with guidance from the Health & Safety Executive.
