Work Equipment

Some lab equipment pose significant risk and thus must not be used until full training, information and instruction has been received. For such equipment, a risk assessment must be completed using information from the manufacturer. The assessment should include any measures identified to help control the risks such as guards, emergency stop controls, screens etc.

Fume Cupboards

  • Reduce the risk of fire or air contamination by keeping the fume hood door closed when not in use or unattended.

  • Reduce exposure of spills by putting your hands as far into the hood as comfortably possible, making sure to keep your head clear of the hood.

  • Reduce exposure of inhalation to you and others by keeping the sash as low as practicable when using.

  • Keep storage inside the hood to a minimum by disposing of those materials you no longer need.
