Learning & Teaching Enhancement

Panopto lecture capture

The University of Bath uses Panopto lecture capture technology to record presentations and lectures, and make them available via Moodle.

This is an established institutional technology which is managed by Audio Visual (AV) Services and is supported pedagogically by the e-Learning Team.

Using Panopto

Panopto allows for the simultaneous capture of audio, video and applications used on a PC or Mac, which can then be shared in a variety of ways during and/or after the presentation.

These recordings take three forms:

  • they can be scheduled for automatic capture within a lecture theatre
  • the Panopto Recorder software can be installed onto your PC or Mac enabling you to record with just a webcam or microphone anyplace, anytime
  • the Panopto Recorder for iOS devices can be downloaded on the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch to enable recordings to be created and uploaded on the move.

Panopto allows the viewer to start, stop, pause and rewind recordings, letting them actively engage with the lecture capture in at time and place most convenient to them.

Panopto at the University

Panopto is being used widely across the campus to support a range of learning and teaching related applications, including ‘The Flipping Project’.
