Library Services for University Alumni

Upon leaving the University at the end of your course of studies or research degree, you will normally find that you lose access to the online databases, journals and ebook titles you were accustomed to using whilst here.  However, the Library has brought together a number of resources and services to support you in your ongoing lifelong learning.

With the growth of the open access movement, a significant body of research is openly available, often with Creative Commons licences that open up the possibility for re-use.  The Library has compiled a guide to recommended resources on the internet, much of which is free. Access is also available from within the library building to a selected list of resources to which the library subscribes.

Further Library services for Alumni users

Joining the Library as an Alumni member

If you are able to visit the Library in person there are advantages to taking up annual membership of the Library.  For example, you may borrow from our printed library holdings and access a selection of online resources via the catalogue terminals.  Instructions for joining, costs and benefits of membership

The Inter-Library Loans Service

Alumni members of the Library can use the service for a fee of £12.00 per request.  A downloadable request form to submit your ILL query and gain advice about payment is available via this weblink.

The Copy and Print department contains self-service copying equipment and is located at the back of the Library, Level 2, in the north-east corner.  Alumni members will need a photocopy card, which you can obtain from the vending machine situated in the north-west corner of the Library on Level 2.  The card costs £2 and contains 50p worth of credit.  You may add credit to this initial balance if you wish using the adjacent value loader machines.  You must photocopy within the limits set by copyright law. Further information about the Copy and Print Service.

Wireless Access on Campus

Visitors to the University should choose WiFi Guest when connecting their device to free campus Wi-Fi.   WiFi Guest will connect your device to The Cloud, hosted by Sky.   If you have an account with The Cloud it will connect automatically, otherwise you will need to create an account using your email address and a password.
