The Public Engagement Unit, based in the Department of Marketing & Communications, was established in July 2012 following a grant from the Research Councils UK's Catalyst programme. The Unit looks to:

Facilitate high quality public engagement, embedded across the whole research lifecycle, with staff and students building mutually beneficial links between our research and the public.

The Unit builds and sustains institutional capacity for public engagement and aims to support any researcher no matter their discipline or prior experience of engagement.

We work in three areas:

Your Public Engagement Team

Dr Helen Featherstone, Head of Public Engagement 

Helen has extensive experience of public engagement through both research and practice. She brings over 14 years practical experience in creative STEM engagement alongside a PhD exploring public engagement with climate change. Her research, teaching and practice focus on the publics' experiences in direct and interactive public engagement.

Rob Cooper, Public Engagement Officer

Rob has worked in the Public Engagement Unit since February 2018 after previously completing a MSc in Science Communication at the University of the West of England and working in public engagement at the MRC's Integrative Epidemiology Unit in the University of Bristol.
