Mr Calogero Avola

MEng (Hons) PhD


Calogero Avola is an Instrumentation and Test Engineer in the Powertrain Vehicle Research Centre. Currently involved in the Turbo Centre 2 project, he is responsible for running experiments on engine and gas stand facilities.

Calogero obtained an MSc in Automotive Engineering from University of Bath. In 2012, he completed an internship at Fujitsu Advanced Technologies (Japan) in the area of Thermal Management Engineering.

Before joining the PVRC he was a research student at University College London, involved in the development of a stable lean combustion system for spark ignition engines. In addition, Calogero is undertaking a part-time PhD at the University of Bath.


Calogero’s PhD topic researches a modelling approach to characterise 2-stage sequential turbocharging systems for internal combustion engine applications. He has also investigated the effect of combustion chamber geometry on in-cylinder phenomena through 3D CFD simulation.
