Research Fellow Dr Lynne Thomas won the Cambridge Crystallographic Data Centre Chemical Crystallography Prize for Younger Scientists 2014.

She accepted her award and gave her prize lecture at the meeting held in Loughborough earlier this month.

Chemical crystallography is the study of the internal arrangement of atoms in crystals formed from chemical compounds.

The award is in recognition of Dr Thomas’ published work in this area. Her particular focus is the role of disorder in the function of crystalline or semi-crystalline materials.

PhD students Mathew Bryant, Lucy Saunders and Louise Hamdy were also winners.

Mathew was awarded best talk in the Young Crystallographers Satellite Meeting with Industrial Relevance, and Lucy and Louise won poster prizes - Lucy won the International Union of Crystallography sponsored prize and Louise won the Young Crystallographer's poster prize.

The four chemists are part of the Metastable Materials grant.
