Bath has extensive links with Mexico through a number of the country’s finest HE institutions, and at all levels from undergraduate, postgraduate and postdoctoral exchanges through to strong collaborative research programmes.

The visit last week, hosted by Professor Colin Grant, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Internationalisation), enabled Minister David Najera (Deputy Chief of Mission) and Ms Evelyn Elia Vera Barreto (Head of Education and International Coorperation) from the Mexican Embassy to learn about the breadth of the relationship between Bath and leading institutions such as UNAM, ITESM and CIMAT.

The event also enabled those at Bath currently engaged in study and research relationships with Mexico to stress the range and depth of collaboration and to explore areas where they are committed to enhancing their partnerships with support from the University, Embassy and other organisations.

Professor Colin Grant said: “This event allowed us to showcase the University of Bath’s excellence and reputation in research and in learning and teaching to the Mexican Embassy. The Embassy plays a key role in supporting and facilitating engagement with different actors in Mexico, and helps to amplify the strategic partnerships we are developing. We’re all excited about the opportunities to strengthen this relationship that the Year of Mexico in the UK and the UK in Mexico offers.”

The celebratory Year of Mexico in the UK and the UK in Mexico was initially intended as a cultural project, and has been extended to include many other areas of interest including research and education. Many activities are planned in both countries in celebration of the year, and the University of Bath is currently putting together a programme of events and activities in collaboration with its Mexican partners.

Students interested in getting involved in activities to celebrate the Year of Mexico in the UK and the UK in Mexico are encouraged to contact Lorna Cuckow in the International Relations Office.
