A report commissioned from independent analysts Oxford Economics has evaluated the extent of the contribution made to the Bath & North East Somerset region by the University, its staff, students and visitors.

Our £294 million contribution to the local economy represented 6.2% of its total economic output, with each additional student bringing £9,560 to the area.

The University supported nearly 5,850 jobs in the B&NES region - one in every 17 jobs – and we are the second largest employer after the Royal United Hospital NHS Trust. The University and its staff directly supported £50.7 million in tax contributions, equivalent to Avon Fire Authority’s running costs for over a year.

Nationally, the University generated £352 million for the UK economy, supported 7,800 people in employment and generated £95 million in tax receipts.

Professor Bernie Morley, Deputy Vice-Chancellor & Provost, said: “This report provides evidence of the significant role we play within our local community through our academic offering, our research, our support for innovation and the wider contribution we make to economic growth and social well-being.”
