Sprint broadens student horizons

Since its introduction at the University of Bath in January 2016, nearly 100 female undergraduates have participated in the Sprint development programme for female undergraduates.

This year the programme was sponsored by ARUP, AXA and Microsoft; the theme of the programme was to encourage participants to “be brave and take a risk”. Sharanya Dhir, first year BSc Management student said, “The Sprint programme gave me the confidence to stand for Chair of the International Students Association (ISA). I am so glad I took the risk as I was successful and am now looking forward to representing international students at Bath”

Run by the Careers Service, the Sprint programme was held during the inter-semester break. Over 25 nationalities were represented along with students from all years of study and academic discipline. The Vice Chancellor said, “The Sprint programme provides students with a really good opportunity to develop their self-confidence and as a consequence of that are able to pursue their ambitions more effectively”.

This July, Careers Adviser Saiyada Fazal, who received support from the Alumni Fund to become a licenced Sprint trainer, will deliver the programme to 45 women studying the MSc Management course within the School of Management.

A second Careers Adviser will soon be trained to deliver the programme, which opens up opportunities for more students to benefit from this outstanding personal development opportunity. For more information, contact Tracey Wells, Head of the Careers Service. (T.Wells@Bath.ac.uk)
