The Senate is responsible for regulating and directing the academic work of the University.

It was the first official University meeting following the publication of the HEFCE report into governance relating to remuneration on Monday (20 November).

In the meeting, the Vice-Chancellor expressed her hope that Council would accept all the report’s recommendations, enabling them to be implemented them as soon as possible. The Vice-Chancellor also said she wished she had not herself voted in the motion raised at the meeting of Court in February and apologised to Senate for doing so.

Senate can discuss, declare an opinion and make recommendations to the Council, the University’s governing body.

Today, a motion of no confidence in the Vice-Chancellor was defeated in a secret ballot at Senate by 19 votes to 16, with 2 abstentions. The defeat of motion will be formally reported to Council on 30th November, its next scheduled meeting.
