Professor Deborah Wilson BSc, MSc, PhD Dean of the Faculty of Humanities & Social Sciences

Deborah is responsible for teaching, research and Faculty strategic planning.

Role

Deborah Wilson is Professor of Public Policy and was appointed Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in October 2022.

Her research investigates the consequences – intended and unintended – of alternative means by which public service organisations are held to account, with a particular focus on the education sector.

Career

Deborah joined Bath from the University of Bristol, where she was Professor of Public Policy and Management in the Faculty of Social Sciences and Law. She held numerous leadership roles at Bristol, including Deputy Dean (2021-2022), Associate Dean Research (2017-2021) and the inaugural Director of PolicyBristol (2013-2016). Deborah was Deputy Director of the ESRC-funded Centre for Market and Public Organisation (CMPO) from 2011-2014. Prior to joining CMPO she held lectureships at the Universities of Bath and Bristol, and was Deputy Director of the ESRC Public Services Programme, University of Oxford, from 2007 until its conclusion in 2010.
