The University of Bath is committed to integrity and academic freedom in all stages of the research life cycle. It is important to us to have a transparent position as to how the University assesses research. The principles are designed to capture current good practice and are underpinned with the notion of “responsible metrics” as outlined in the Independent Review of the Role of Metrics in Research Assessment and Management and the Leiden Manifesto.
The Principles were developed by a University level working group with representatives from the three Faculties, the School of Management and relevant Professional Services and were approved by Senate on February 1st 2017.
Jonathan Knight explained: “Peer review remains the foundation for the assessment of research quality, but metrics are increasing in their prominence in the external environment and we felt it important to publish the University’s principles for the use of these indicators.”
If you have any queries about the principles or how they apply to your activities please contact Katy McKen.
