Your timetable - guidance and help

How to access your timetable, what you can expect to see and what to do if you think something isn't right.

Access your timetable

The University provides students with an individual timetable using MyTimetable. Your individual timetable is normally published on the date stated below.

For more information on how to use My Timetable, please read the guide to accessing MyTimetable. This includes instructions on how to sync your calendar to your mobile device.

Publication dates:

Semester 1

Continuing students: Friday 12 September 2025
New students: Friday 19 September 2025 (see important information below).

Semester 2

All students: Friday 12 December 2025

Important information:

  • New students may not have a full individual timetable from the stated date. If teaching has not yet started, do not worry. Sometimes activities are added a bit later on and will be visible on your timetable by the start of teaching. In the meantime, general timetables are available for courses and units in MyTimetable.
  • The standard teaching day is from 8:15am to 7:05pm, Monday to Friday. On Wednesday's undergraduate student teaching ends at 1:05pm.
  • You are expected to check your timetable regularly to ensure you are aware of any changes. E.g. additional detail may be added to a scheduled activity, or your Department may add extra events.
  • Follow the guides below if your individual timetable is blank, if you think your units are wrong, or if there is a clash between your scheduled activities.

Information on your timetable

Your timetable will show all activities that you are expected to attend on-campus or online (Live Online Interactive Learning - or LOIL). Along with general teaching activities, you may see other events such as departmental talks, skills sessions or information sessions.

On-campus activities

Teaching on campus takes many forms, such as lectures, seminars, tutorials, practical and workshop classes.

Live Online Interactive Learning (LOIL)

All LOIL is accessed exclusively online, and marked with 'LOIL' in the name of the activity. Links to access a LOIL session are published on the unit's page in Moodle. The page may also give you more information on what to expect from your online activity. If you have issues accessing Moodle, please follow the Support Guide.

Details shown for each activity

  • unit code
  • the weeks the activity is held
  • who teaches/is leading the activity
  • location on campus (if not LOIL)

Group allocations

If your activity is split into groups, you will be able to see details in either the activity's name, or by a group number at the end of the title (e.g. MN20082-Sem/01 or MN20083-Sem/02, etc). If your final group is not yet shown on your individual timetable do not worry, your department will tell you before teaching starts. If you haven't heard anything by the first week of teaching you must contact the Unit Convenor, or if you're not sure who that is, reach out to your Administrative Department Timetabling Liaison (DTL).

Independent learning

This is not shown on the timetable.

If there is a clash

Unfortunately, we're not able to give all students a clash-free timetable, particularly for courses that have many optional units. If you have a clash you must first contact your Director of Studies to discuss alternatives. If you're not sure who that is, contact your Administrative Department Timetabling Liaison (DTL).

If your timetable is blank

If there are no activities in your individual timetable it may not yet be finalised. If teaching has not yet started do not worry, your individual timetable will be complete by the start of teaching. In the meantime, you can plan your time using the general timetables for courses and units in MyTimetable.

Why is my timetable blank?

This is temporary and can sometimes happen if you:

  • are a new student.
  • have recently changed course or course year.
  • are subject to academic assessment before progressing.
  • planned to go on placement but are instead returning to Bath. You may require course and unit changes to be made to your SAMIS record.
  • have optional unit choices outstanding.
  • are due to be taught in a group and students haven't yet been allocated to final activities by your department.
  • are not yet registered with the University (once you are fully registered you'll need to wait around 2 working days for your timetable to be available).

Teaching has started and my individual timetable is still blank

If you think your units are wrong or missing

If you find that you have units missing, or there are units you're not expecting to study showing in your individual timetable, you should first wait 48 hours in case there is an update in progress. If your timetable still isn't showing what you expect to see, you must check the units you're registered on in SAMIS by accessing “Current Modules”.

  • If your units are correct in SAMIS and teaching has not yet started do not worry. Sometimes activities are added a bit later on and will be visible on your timetable by the start of teaching. In the meantime, you can plan your time using the general timetables for courses and units in MyTimetable.

  • If your units aren't correct in SAMIS you must contact your Course Administrator using the list below. They will check and update your student record as necessary. It can take 24 hours for the change to show on MyTimetable.

Director of Studies (DoS) approved options

If your option doesn't yet show in your individual timetable, you must first check that the unit is not scheduled at a time that clashes with the rest of your timetable. You can do this by adding the unit to your timetable in MyTimetable.

  • If you have a clash you must discuss it with your Director of Studies.
  • If there are no clashes between the optional unit and the rest of your timetable, contact your Course Administrator using the list below to ask them to add the unit to your student record so it shows on your individual timetable.

If your department can't help

If you have already contacted your department and they aren't able to help you, they may ask you to contact Academic Registry by emailing student-timetable@bath.ac.uk. Please provide as much information as you can on what's missing or incorrect, and screenshots from MyTimetable.

If you can’t attend a timetabled activity

Students should take part in all scheduled learning activities. Because scheduling at the University is complex, it's usually not possible to change the timetable for a single student. You should read your Department Handbook to find out what to do if you:

  • Unexpectedly can’t attend a scheduled activity.
  • Are ill, or likely to be ill for more than three days.
  • Have a clash with a planned religious observance, or medical appointment.
  • Need to be absent for more than three days for a planned reason such as a medical or surgical procedure, or to participate in a religious observance. You can apply for a leave of absence and your department can arrange in advance for time off study. It may be able to consider other options.
