A new University procedure for Making Adjustments to Learning, Teaching and Assessment for students with disabilities, long-term health conditions and specific learning difficulties will take effect from AY26-27.

This aims to:

  • provide clarity for staff about their responsibilities under our legal duty in the 2010 Equality Act
  • ensure a consistent experience for students across the University
  • support Disability Access Plan volume management through a transition to inclusive practice
  • give students clear information about what they can expect and what is expected of them
  • manage expectations around the measures available and how these can be accessed.

The procedure was approved by Senate in April 2026, and is based on a new framework for reasonable adjustments, developed in consultation with academic and professional services colleagues.

Briefing sessions are being held between today (Wednesday 24 June) and Monday 6 July. These sessions are designed to support all student-facing staff in understanding your responsibilities under the new procedure and preparing for the coming academic year.
