The University of Bath has been named one of the top 10 places in the world to study sport in a global ranking published today.

The QS World University Rankings by Subject 2021 rated Bath as one of the world’s top universities for the study of 23 subjects, with seven subjects earning a top-100 placing.

Bath is ranked joint-seventh in the world to study sports-related subjects, while the University’s business and management studies, architecture and the built environment, chemical engineering, mathematics, development studies, and social policy and administration courses all earned top 100 placings in their respective subject areas.

Compiled by higher education analysts QS Quacquarelli Symonds, the rankings name the world’s best universities for the study of 51 academic disciplines and provide comparative analysis of 14,435 individual university programmes, taken by students at 1,452 universities.

14 subjects named among top 20 in UK

A total of 14 subjects offered at Bath were rated among the UK’s best, earning top 20 placings domestically.

The scores are calculated through an analysis of performance across four areas: academic reputation, employer reputation, citations per research paper, and a measure of the productivity and impact of the work published by an institutions' scientists and scholars.

President and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Bath, Professor Ian White, said:

“These rankings showcase the range and depth of high-quality research and teaching at the University of Bath. They are a reflection of the dedication, ambition and care of our staff and students. I am particularly pleased to see us build upon our excellent, long-standing reputation for sports by achieving a top 10 placing internationally. I also warmly congratulate all colleagues for the rankings in the top 100 subjects globally on this fantastic achievement.”

Bath is ranked highly in all national league tables. We are ranked 6th in the UK by The Guardian University Guide 2021, 6th for graduate prospects in The Times & Sunday Times Good University Guide 2021, and 9th out of 130 UK universities in the Complete University Guide 2020.
