The University of Bath is proud to announce that Professor Anna Gilmore, Co-Director of the Centre for 21st Century Public Health (C21PH), will address the World Health Organization’s Pan-European Commission on Climate and Health (PECCH) at its final hearing in Copenhagen on 2 October 2025.
The hearing, “Mobilizing Power: Building Political Will for a Healthy Climate Future”, will focus on turning climate and health evidence into actionable policy across Europe.
Prof Gilmore will join an international panel of experts, policymakers, and civil society leaders to push for stronger integration of health in national climate strategies.
Prof Gilmore said: “Climate change is not just an environmental issue; it is a health emergency. I’m honoured to contribute to this vital Commission and to help shape policies that protect communities across Europe and beyond.”
The PECCH is an independent high-level advisory group established by WHO/Europe to raise awareness and drive stronger action on the health impacts of climate change. It is chaired by H.E. Katrín Jakobsdóttir, former Prime Minister of Iceland, with support from Sir Andrew Haines, Professor of Environmental Change and Public Health at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.
Professor Gilmore is an internationally recognised expert in public health policy, specialising in the commercial determinants of health and the intersection of health, governance, and climate action. Alongside her role as Co-Director of C21PH, she is also Director of Local Health Global Profits, part of UKRI’s Population Health Improvement UK, and Professor of Public Health in the Department for Health at the University of Bath.
The hearing will be promoted widely through WHO/Europe’s external channels, including social media, newsletters, and media outreach, with speaker profiles and live coverage to engage a broad international audience
