Our Department of Education is delighted to host Dr Pedro Flores-Crespo from the Universidad Autónoma de Querétaro (UAQ) in Mexico as a Visiting Research Fellow.
This visit, which will run from 13 February 2025 to 18 March 2026, aims to develop international partnerships and advance research in education policy and assessment.
Dr Flores-Crespo, a distinguished professor at UAQ's Facultad de Ciencias Políticas y Sociales, holds a PhD in Politics and Development from the University of York, UK. As a member of the Mexican Council of Educational Research, his work focuses on education policy, equality of opportunities, and social development. He has previously served as coordinator of UAQ's graduate programmes and contributed to numerous publications on educational reform in Mexico.
During his visit, Dr Flores-Crespo will collaborate closely with Dr Artemio Cortez-Ochoa, Professor Andrés Sandoval-Hernández and other members of the Faculty of Humanities & Social Sciences.
Key activities will include developing a proposal for an ESRC Responsive Mode grant titled Education Policy Laboratory (EDPolicy Lab), exploring institutional partnerships between UAQ and the University of Bath, and initiating future joint research projects.
The Education Policy Laboratory (EDPolicy Lab) is an emerging international research platform designed to generate rigorous empirical evidence to inform education policy design, implementation and evaluation, with a particular focus on equity, institutional decision-making and the use of large-scale assessment data. The initiative is being developed in collaboration with colleagues at the University of Constantine 1 and Tribhuvan University, strengthening South/North and South/South research partnerships.
Professor Sandoval-Hernández, who serves as Study Director for the International Civic and Citizenship Education Study (ICCS), expressed enthusiasm about the partnership:
This visit strengthens our global networks and brings valuable perspectives on educational inequalities and policy from Latin America.
