Expand your learning opportunities

The Skills Centre provides a range of courses to help students whose first language is not English improve their academic and communication skills. In Semester 2, you can join a general English Language Skills course, a 5‑week Discussion Skills course, and British Studies (Shakespeare). These courses are designed to enhance your confidence in English, support your studies, and help you engage more fully in university life.

Course details

English Language Skills courses are offered at both Advanced and Proficiency level. To ensure you are placed in the right group, you will first complete a Placement Test before being assigned to a course.

Discussion Skills offers a practical, interactive environment to develop your ability to express ideas clearly and participate in debates.

British Studies introduces you to aspects of British culture and language, and in Semester 2 you can enrol on a course covering Shakespeare.

Important information

Please note that the courses run at the same time, so you can only enrol on one course this semester.

Discussion Skills and British Studies can be booked directly through MySkills, while English Language Skills requires you to take a Placement Test before enrolment.
