This Award is made in recognition of the important role played by Directors of Studies in supporting learning and teaching, and their positive impact on the student experience.
Mrs Lewis and Dr Nemetz were selected by the Committee as successful nominees. Both received a great many statements of support from students and staff, emphasising their exceptional commitment to student wellbeing and their personal dedication to improving students’ experience during their time at Bath.
Mrs Lewis was selected for her tireless energy and dedication in supporting a diverse cohort of students, especially those who face personal or academic challenges. As Director of Studies, she has used her own work experience outside academia to improve the experience of students on the MBA programme, achieving impressive results.
Dr Nemetz was selected following an impressive set of nominations and supporting statements from both staff and students. Commended for his inspirational approach to teaching, and exceptional commitment to student wellbeing, Dr Nemetz was widely acknowledged as an enthusiastic driver of change with the Department of Computer Science, developing novel computer laboratory teaching methods and mid-semester feedback, and promoting a busy calendar of extra-curricular activities for students.
The Committee felt that the achievements in learning and teaching of both Mrs Lewis and Dr Nemetz were equally deserving of the Director of Studies Award.
