There is an opportunity for five Fellows or Lecturers from every Faculty/School to serve on the University’s EPSRC and ESRC Impact Acceleration Account (IAA) Programme Boards for up to two years. This will involve working with the EPSRC Chair, Professor Sarah Hainsworth, PVC (Research and Enterprise); ESRC Chair, Professor Julie Barnett, Associate PVC Research; Associate Deans for Research; colleagues in professional services; and external representatives from business and UKRI.
The Boards ensure that institutional impact acceleration funding is used to support activities which drive knowledge exchange, innovation and impact, underpinned by a culture of inclusivity and responsible innovation.
The purpose of the role is to:
- provide experience of committees for staff at the early stages of their career
- enable the Boards to benefit from the diversity of experience that ECR members contribute to the group
The roles would suit candidates from every faculty or school, with an interest in knowledge exchange (KE) and research impact. It may also be of particular interest to ECR staff who have had KE or Impact-related funding in the past, or been involved in projects of that type.
Expectations of the role
As an active Member of the EPSRC and ESRC IAA Programme Boards, you will:
- attend 2 or 3 meetings per year (approx. 1.5 hours each, with up to 1 hour preparation time), where possible, and occasional extraordinary meetings or related activities, as needed
- contribute to discussion and decision-making about EPSRC and ESRC IAA funding, activities and processes, and identify opportunities to improve their delivery
- possibly review funding applications for IAA awards (usually once or twice per year – note that you may need to reserve up to 1 working day to review applications for larger rounds), and monitor their progress
- maintain confidentiality, declare any conflicts of interest and act to ensure actual or potential conflicts are managed appropriately
How to apply
Please submit your response to the following questions in the body of an email to impact-acceleration@bath.ac.uk by the deadline of Monday 31 March 2025, 4pm:
- How might membership of the Board benefit your personal or professional development? (100 words max.)
- What can you bring to the role – for example, experience of KE and research impact, research translation/commercialisation, public engagement or other relevant experience which might be beneficial? (100 words max.)
We will aim to be in touch with a decision by 30 April 2025.
