There was a small fire yesterday evening in a room in 4 South, one of the teaching and research buildings located on campus. There were no people inside this building at the time of the fire.

We are grateful to Avon Fire and Rescue Service, who were in attendance and left the scene early this morning, and to our own Security team for their work throughout the night.

The fire was quickly put out and there was no damage to the fabric of the building, which has been ventilated and is open as usual.

The safety of our students, staff and visitors is paramount. We have a comprehensive fire strategy that is kept under review, which includes signage, fire doors, fire alarms, evacuation plans and fire safety training for staff and students and research facilities.
