Brilliant Basics are the simple, everyday foundations that help all of us work in a way that’s healthy and sustainable over time.
Why this matters
If we want to build a truly health supporting environment in which wellbeing is recognised as an enabler of sustainable, high performance, we must start with the basics. When we understand what helps each of us be at our best, we’re better able to create the conditions for consistent, repeatable results across our teams and our work.
That means having meaningful 1:1 conversations about:
- what each of us needs to thrive
- what gets in the way
- what actions we and others can take to set us up for success
- how we support one another when we're struggling
These conversations sound simple, but they’re not always easy. Talking about personal needs can sometimes feel uncomfortable or unfamiliar.

The Brilliant Basics training, along with the new Individual Wellbeing Action Plan, is designed to make this much easier. It’s practical and straightforward, providing a clear, supportive structure for both staff and managers. Together, these tools support us to build sustainable habits that help us be at our best more consistently.
Take time this week
If you haven’t yet completed the training, why not take some time this week to do so. There's a version for staff, and a version for line managers and supervisors (you only need to complete the one relevant to your role). It’s a small investment that can make a meaningful difference ‒ to you, your team, and the way we work together.
